“It’s a big challenge these days to try to capture expressions for the multiple headsculpts, but also makes every project feel like a real study of the character. As for Vultan, he’s one-of-a-kind and probably the most fun of these three to sculpt. You rarely get to do some bombastic expressions with a character!
I feel like we’ve been on borrowed time for a while now, making things in wax or clay nowadays. It’s not seen as a virtue in general to do things this way, it’s a detriment to most collectibles companies, and that’s a shame…I still feel a difference in the final work, which is enough for me to want to keep striving in this direction…but I recognize I’m in the minority there…”

“I’m not on the Flash team – but I’m obsessed with the film and (of course) the soundtrack, and was thrilled when Randy Falk allowed me to come up with this year’s comic-con exclusive. The Flash Gordon figure was sculpted and approved, but Randy wanted to give it a wow factor and make it deluxe for a con, so I came up with the idea from the iconic scene where Prince Barin challenges Flash to this “test of Manhood” and got to design “The Stump” (guess I know my wood).
It was fun to figure out just how much we could cheat scale and still create something massive and interactive. Hats off to the rest of the team who took over in sculpting and painting these beauties, as well as Jon Wardell for creating an amazing original art piece for the packaging…”
